Vegas Day Trips - Dams, Lakes and The Grand Canyon

May 24, 2008

Grand Canyon ToursDon’t get me wrong, I LOVE Las Vegas!  Even if you’re not a big gambler, there is so much to do!  Shows, shopping, golfing, and spa treatments just to name a few  But if you’re like me, after 3 to 4 days, I get restless and am looking for something new to do.  I did a little research on the subject,as I am planning a trip to Las Vegas in the coming months.

I had no idea there were SO many day trip options from Las Vegas!  I booked a day trip for my upcoming Vegas trip with The Grand Canyon Tour Company.  The bus picks you up right at your hotel.  No need to take a taxi or worse, rent a car and have to drive in unfamiliar territory.  You can choose from bus, airplane or helicopter tours to the Grand Canyon and quite a few other destinations such as Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and even Area 51 (oh my).   If you haven’t been to Hoover Dam before, I will say that pictures don’t do it justice.  It is an immense feat of engineering and definitely a must-do excursion.
Since I had already done a trip to Hoover Dam on a previous Vegas vacation, I decided to try an airplane tour this time around.  If you’re not big on small planes, not to worry, you can always tour the canyon via an equally rewarding bus tour over the Grand Canyon instead.  Can you believe you can book a bus tour for two with breakfast and lunch included for $169.99?

Since I live on the East Coast, making out to Las Vegas is not a short hop.  I find it a more than a little draining and I don’t recoup from the jet lag as quickly as I use to.  That’s why staying in Vegas for only 3 or 4 days isn’t very appealing to me.  As soon as I would get over the long flight and 3 hour time difference, it was time to pack it up and go home.  From now on, I am planning on staying for at least 1 week and will expand my horizons a little by booking a few day trips or perhaps even a short overnighter.  A cruise on beautiful Lake Mead and the Grand Canyon Music Festival are definitely on my list!

If you’ve used The Grand Canyon Tour Company  before or have been to any of the excursions that I’ve listed.  Please leave me a comment and let me know how your tour was.
