The Cabin Cuddler - The Hand’s-Down Best Travel Blanket!

July 4, 2008

Cabin CuddlerMy search for a good travel blanket came out of sheer necessity…

Why are airplane cabins are so hot and stuffy when you’re on the ground then frigid during the flight itself?   It’s even worse when you travel in the summertime because you’re usually wearing shorts, short sleeves and sandals.  Once the plane takes off and the flight attendants

set climate control in the cabin is set to “freeze”,  you soon lose the feeling in your fingers and toes. Those airplane blankets (when you can find them), are small, flimsy and actually a little nasty.  I could live with small and flimsy but are they actually even clean? Given the fact airlines are trying to cut corners whenever they can….probably not.

I suppose any fleece throw brought from home would actually do the job of keeping you warm, but usually, if your legs and feet are covered, your arms are not. You almost need a full size blanket to cover yourself and that just takes WAY too much space in your carry-on bag.

A few months ago, while traveling on a cross country flight, I saw a passenger on the plane with this unique travel blanket that I hadn’t seen before.  It had what I would describe as a pocket for your feet,  and the top sported a built-in shoulder wrap.   It was ingenious.  As we were getting ready to land.  The woman put the blanket in it’s own travel tote and went on her way.  I found out later by doing a little investigating, that she was sporting a “Cabin Cuddler”

The Cabin Cuddler now avalable in 2 colors comes with a matching inflatable travel pillow.   Once you have one, you’ll find you take it with you to outdoor sporting events, camping trips, and even for lounging at home.

I agree that it does get cold on the plane but it’s more because of altitude rather than the flight attendants preference. On every flight we have people complaining it’s cold while others sweating in their seats. It’s so hard to make everyone happy so we try to keep it to a happy medium. Still, bringing your own blanket is a good idea because you have no idea when that airplane blanket was last washed! yuck!

    Kailani,

Thanks for that perspective! I will certainly agree that you can’t please everyone ! I have been on flights where if you are sitting in the window seat the airplane wall feels like the inside of a freezer while the temperature if you’re in the aisle seat is comfortable.

Being the germ freak that I am, airplane blankets and pillows are not even an option for me!
